The New Orleans Saints are the last NFL team without a head coach. However, Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is considered the favorite to win the head coaching job.

Kellen Moore Will Meet With Saints

Regarding Moore becoming the Saints’ next head coach, it’s a matter of when, not if.

The Saints plan to meet with Moore following Super Bowl LIX, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo, and Tom Pelissero.

The news comes after CBS’ Jonathan Jones reported Moore was in the “driver’s seat” for the Saints head coaching position.

The Saints cannot contact Moore when he’s in the facilities during Super Bowl week. However, they can speak with him immediately after the Super Bowl, which happens to be in New Orleans.

It’s not a guarantee that Moore gets the job. However, the Saints’ willingness to wait until after the Super Bowl to speak with Philly’s OC means the team will likely hire him barring an unexpected setback.

Moore has helped guide the Eagles offense to 367.2 yards per game (8th), 179.3 rushing yards per game (2nd), and 7th in points per game (27.2).

His biggest contribution has been in the running game. Under Moore’s scheme, Saquon Barkley became the ninth player to rush for over 2,000 yards in a single season.

Moore, 36, has been a fast riser in the coaching circles. Moore joined the Dallas Cowboys staff in 2018 as a quarterback coach. He then served as the offensive coordinator of the Cowboys (2019-2022) and Los Angeles Chargers (2023) before settling in Philadelphia.

What Will The New Orleans Saints Do At QB?

With a new coach, will the Saints make a change at quarterback?

Before the 2024 season, quarterback Derek Carr restructured his deal. His $30 million salary for 2025 becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the league year in March.

Carr carries a cap hit of $51 million for the 2025 season.

While Carr would restructure his deal for 2025, he won’t take less money to remain in New Orleans.

“I wouldn’t take a pay cut,” Carr told Katherine Terrell of ESPN. “Yeah, I wouldn’t do that. Especially with what I put on tape. Would I restructure? Absolutely. I’ll always help the team that way. But there’s some things that you put out there that you earned. Even in some cases it could be even worse, but I felt confident when I signed it that this would give the team the best flexibility at the time.”

If Moore becomes the next coach of the Saints, he must decide what to do with Carr before the league year begins in March.
