Philadelphia Eagles Promote Kevin Patullo To Offensive Coordinator, Replacing Kellen Moore

The Philadelphia Eagles filled their vacant offensive coordinator job from within, promoting passing game coordinator/associate head coach Kevin Patullo to the position on Wednesday.

Philadelphia Eagles Hired Kevin Patullo As Pass Game Coordinator In 2021

Patullo, 43, is replacing Kellen Moore, who was hired as the New Orleans Saints head coach shortly after the Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Nick Sirianni hired Patullo as pass game coordinator when he received the Eagles head coaching job in 2021. Patullo previously served as an assistant coach for the Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills, and Chiefs.

Patullo has an extensive history with Sirianni. He served as wide receivers coach and then pass game specialist for Indianapolis from 2018-20 during Sirianni’s stint as the Colts’ offensive coordinator.

“[He’s been] very important to the success that we’ve had,” Sirianni said earlier this month. “He wears a lot of different hats. Helps me with different things, with head coaching things. I can’t tell you I make a decision without saying to Kevin first, ‘What do you think?’…He’s kind of the same sounding board for Kellen of the offensive side.

“This is eight years with Kevin. That continuity is really important because he knows what I’m thinking in certain situations, how you want things to be taught, all those different things.”

Patullo Could Flourish As Philadelphia’s New Offensive Coordinator

According to the Eagles’ news release, the team has the following league rankings for offensive metrics that Patullo has been partially responsible for since 2021:

  • 2nd in passing yards per attempt
  • 2nd in fewest interceptions
  • 3rd in points scored
  • 3rd in drive score percentage
  • 3rd in touchdown percentage
  • 4th in offensive EPA (expected points added) per play
  • 5th in successful play percentage
  • 6th in passer rating

In addition to working on the coaching staffs of the Chiefs and Colts, Patullo has wide receiver and quarterback coaching experience with the Bills (offensive quality control/assistant WRs, 2010-2012), Titans (assistant WRs, 2014), and Jets (quarterbacks, 2015-2016),

Said Patullo of the significance of having coached both quarterbacks and wide receivers:

“Being able to coach both positions, you can really marry the two. Coaching receivers in Indy, I was able to use my quarterback knowledge from coaching that position and playing it and get the guys to understand why they needed to be somewhere and why we needed to have them there at that time. … I think you can teach the guys a perspective that they’re not used to hearing.”

Patullo is moving into his 16th season coaching in the NFL.
