3 Teams Who Should Sign Eagles CB Darius Slay After Release

The Philadelphia Eagles are releasing cornerback Darius Slay after five seasons. The veteran played a vital role in an Eagles’ defense that dominated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Eagles will designate Slay as a post-June 1 cut, saving the team $4.3 million on the 2025 salary cap.

Detroit Lions
No team was decimated more by injuries than the Detroit Lions.
The Lions entered the Divisional Round against the Washington Commanders with 16 players on injured reserve. More than half of the players on IR came from the defensive side of the ball.
Cornerback Carlton Davis is set to become a free agent.
If Davis walks, a cornerback becomes a massive need for a Detroit secondary that allowed the third-most passing yards per game in 2024 (244.0).
Enter Slay, who played his first seven seasons in Detroit before being traded to Philadelphia.
Atlanta Falcons
Few understand the importance of an elite defense more than Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris.
The defensive-minded head coach was the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams during their Super Bowl-winning run in 2021-2022.
Atlanta has two studs in the secondary right now: cornerback A.J. Terrell and safety Jessie Bates III.
Adding Slay gives the Falcons one of the best secondaries in the NFL on paper.
Washington Commanders
Slay may not have to travel far for his next destination.
The Washington Commanders need a cornerback next to Marshon Lattimore.
The Commanders were good against the pass in the regular season (189.5 yards per game), but that number jumped to 244.3 per game in the postseason.
To compete with the Eagles, the Commanders must improve their defense.
With the seventh-most cap space in the league, now is the time to add players like Slay while Jayden Daniels is on a rookie contract.
