The 2025 Lexus Eastbourne Open begins on Monday, June 23.  It is a WTA 250 event.

Players are trying to get more grass court match play at the Eastbourne Open because of the short season so there is always a chance tennis fans get treated to an intriguing doubles team.

This year, there is a blockbuster one that will attract lots of attention.  Grand Slam singles and doubles champions are teaming together for the first time. They have been on opposing sides of the net on grass often including at last year’s Wimbledon quarterfinals.

Jelena Ostapenko and Barbora Krejcikova will play together at Lexus Eastbourne Open

We can thank the tennis gods for this pairing which could be a one time only event given that both players frequently play doubles with other partners. Barbora Krejcikova is a couple of years removed from her all-Czech pairing with Katerina Siniakova which yielded seven Grand Slam wins and 2020 Tokyo Olympic gold.  Jelena Ostapenko has recently been successful with multiple partners including Lyudmyla Kichenok (winners of the 2024 US Open), Hseih Su-wei, and Erin Routliffe.

Individually, they are Grand Slam champions also.  Ostapenko is the 2017 French Open champion, and Krejcikova won the 2021 French Open and is the reigning Wimbledon champion after a magical run.  Krejcikova defeated Ostapenko at Wimbledon in straight sets last year.

The Ostapenko/Krejcikova duo is seeded fourth at Eastbourne. The lingering and yet to be answered question is if this team plans to play Wimbledon together.
