Edmonton Oilers Trade Rumors: Three players who could be traded with Hyman return imminent

There is a genuine possibility that the Edmonton Oilers could make a trade with forward Zach Hyman expected back in the immediate future. Hyman has not played since game four of the 2025 Western Conference Finals when he dislocated his wrist after making contact with former Dallas Stars forward Mason Marchment (who is now with the Seattle Kraken). At the time, the injury was a severe blow to the Oilers. They were still able to get by the Stars in the Stanley Cup semifinals, but the loss Hyman’s physicality and all-around exceptional skill was a major reason why the Oilers lost the Stanley Cup Final to the Florida Panthers in six games.

According to Rob Couch of NHL Trade Rumors, there are three Oilers possibly on the block. They are forward Mattias Janmark, defenseman Ty Emberson and goaltender Calvin Pickard. The reason why a trade would be made is to clear up cap space so the Oilers can acquire an elite player (possibly a goalie) closer to the trade deadline. Let’s take a look at these three.

Mattias Janmark

The Oilers checking line centre from Stockholm, Sweden suffered an undisclosed injury during training camp and went on injury reserve as a result. Janmark has not played a game yet this season. The reason why it is unlikely the Oilers trade Janmark is because he is only making $1.45 million this season and next season, and you do not get may players better than Janmark at that value or less. Janmark did only score two goals last season, but is a strong penalty killer as he showcased during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Ty Emberson

The Oilers blueliner from Eau Claire, Wisconsin could be the most expendable of the three. That is because the Oilers seem to be very interested in developing blueliner Alec Regula of West Bloomfield, Michigan. The problem with Regula is he has battled injuries over the last year (knee and head).

Calvin Pickard

We all know that Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard have received significant blame for the Oilers not beating the Florida Panthers in the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals. Despite a 2-1 start, Pickard has an unimpressive goals against average (3.50), and save percentage (.846) in 2025-26. You could say trade Pickard, and call up Connor Ingram, who the Oilers signed in the offseason. The problem is that Ingram has a poor goals against average of 3.67 and save percentage of .871 with the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League.
