Empire State Building

Not only did New York fans have to watch Saquon Barkley carry Philadelphia to Super Bowl LIX this year, but they also watched on with rage as the Empire State Building was lit up in Eagles green on Sunday night.

New York fans rage at Barkley & Eagles success

It is safe to say that the NFL Championship weekend didn’t go to plan for New York Giants fans, with their former player Saquon Barkley continuing to run riot for the Eagles in his first season.

Barkley led Philadelphia with three touchdowns on Sunday afternoon in a resounding win against the Commanders as the Eagles advanced to their second Super Bowl in the last three years.

New York lost Barkley to the Eagles during free agency in summer, and the running back already looks like one of the best moves in NFL trade history after just one season in Philly.

It was well documented in the Giants ‘Hard Knocks’ series this season that New York head coach Brian Daboll didn’t want to let Barkley go, but the franchise felt they had no choice based on his high salary and the team’s own salary cap.

Barkley became just the ninth player in history to reach 2,000 rushing yards in a single regular season this year, with his own 2,005 yards beating New York’s total rushing yards on the whole season (1,783).

The running back looks dead set to win Offensive Player of the Year for 2024, with the best USA betting sites pricing up Barkley at -5000 to win the award.

Just when Giants fans thought their weekend couldn’t get any worse, the Empire State Building was lit up in the middle of the city on Sunday night in Eagles’ green.

The official X account for the New York landmark posted a video of the building lit up on Sunday night with a caption seemingly apologising to all New York fans.

Saquon Barkley closing in on history

27-year-old Saquon Barkley has already broken all sorts of records this season, and he is now closing in on a final major milestone that will etch his name in the history books forever.

Barkley needs just 29 rushing yards to break Terrell Davis’ single season rushing record (including the playoffs), which currently stands at 2,476.

Most single season rushing yards including postseason

  1. Terrell Davis (1998) – 2,476
  2. Saquon Barkley (2024) – 2,447
  3. Terrell Davis (1997) – 2,331
  4. Eric Dickerson (1984) – 2,212
  5. Adrian Peterson (2012) – 2,196
