After a 13-6 start to the 2025-26 season, the Heat are struggling as of late. Miami is 2-8 in its last 10 and has lost two straight. That includes a tough 132-125 loss to the Knicks on Sunday.
The Heat are 15-14 as of Tuesday, December 23. Head coach Erik Spoelstra spoke to reporters after Sunday’s loss to New York. Spoelstra did not hold back. He publicly pleaded for his team to take their effort and intensity to “another level.” Miami’s gameplan in the last 10 games has not led to consistent wins. What can the players do to help their head coach?
Will the Heat respond to their head coach’s statement from Sunday?
This is the most annoyed I’ve seen Spo look during these bad stretch of games:
“We not talking about moral victories…we are developing a collective competitive will in these painful games…we’re not happy about the result…our guys care in the locker room but it’s gotta be… pic.twitter.com/wnQNenvqGX

For 18 seasons, Erik Spoelstra has been the head coach of the Heat. He’s helped Miami win two championships in his tenure. Additionally, the team has only missed the playoffs three times in its 18 years. In his time with the Heat, Erik Spoelstra has continuously kept the team competitive. That’s why the team’s recent struggles are taking a toll on players, coaches, the front office, and even the fans.
Miami is 2-8 in its last 10 games. They have a 15-14 record after a loss on Monday to the Knicks. Head coach Erik Spoelstra spoke to reporters after the game, and he was frustrated. Spoelstra mentioned how he knows the players in the locker room care about the results each night. However, he called out the team’s effort.
Spo wants to see more effort from the Heat:
“Our guys care in the locker room, but it has to be another level… Has to be more. It’s not enough. It’s a savage league. It’s survival of the competitive toughest. Thats where we’re gonna get.”pic.twitter.com/7cN0AvaQi0

Erik Spoelstra said his team must take it to “another level,” and their recent effort is “not enough.” The 55-year-old knows what high-level competition looks like. He clearly is not seeing that from this group at this point in the season. Luckily, there is still time for the Heat to turn it around and get back to winning basketball. Only two games separate the Heat in 8th place and the 76ers in 4th. If Miami can stack wins over the next few weeks, it’ll be right back near the top of the Eastern Conference.
