“Erling [Haaland] scoring again… it is starting to make us laugh” – Jorginho Insists Manchester City Goalmachine’s Form Is Not Unnerving Arsenal
Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has insisted the Gunners are not letting Manchester City talisman Erling Haaland’s stunning form get to their head. The Italian has said the North Londoners are focused on themselves and are determined to get maximum points from their upcoming trip to the Etihad Stadium.
Erling Haaland Is In A League Of His Own
Haaland has been in imperious form since becoming a Manchester City player in 2022. In his debut season, the Norway international scored 52 goals in 53 games in all competitions. He helped Man City to a historic Treble, winning the Golden Boot in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. Haaland was not as imperious in 2023-24, with him scoring 38 times in 45 games across competitions. However, he still finished as the top scorer in the Premier League for the second consecutive season.
This season, the 24-year-old has gotten off to a career-best start. Featuring in four Premier League games, Haaland has struck nine times, bagging two hat-tricks. His goals have allowed Man City to maintain a 100% record in the English top flight and open up a two-point lead over second-placed Arsenal.
Jorginho Claims Arsenal Is Not Wary Of Haaland
Arsenal will face Haaland and Co. in the Premier League on Sunday, September 22, knowing that a victory will take them to the top of the Premier League rankings. Ahead of the game, Jorginho opened up about what he and his teammates thought about the Premier League Golden Boot favorite.
“Erling scoring again… it is starting to make us laugh,” said Jorginho (via The Mirror).
“We look because we look at all the games and we love football. We love the Premier League so we watch all the games. We watch [City] as well, which is normal. It doesn’t get to our head. We need to focus on us and that is what we are trying to do.”
Jorginho added:
“The team is working together, going through the process together. You learn more about each other. You just get better because everyone wants to improve and wants the best for the team.
“If you want to achieve big things you need to have the mentality of trying to win every single game. That is what we need to do and that is what we want to do.”
Arsenal and Manchester City played out a goalless draw at the Etihad Stadium last season. The draw ultimately benefitted the Cityzens as they clinched the Premier League title ahead of the Gunners, finishing just two points clear.
