Police are searching for three suspects accused of breaking into the Sherman Oaks rental home of former Los Angeles Lakers forward Christian Wood after allegedly using a fake pizza delivery to test whether anyone was inside, according to a search warrant obtained by TMZ Sports.
Christian Wood Grabbed Gun Amid Break-In
According to TMZ Sports, investigators say the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 5, when a Domino’s delivery driver arrived at the Airbnb residence where Wood was staying.
Wood, 30, was inside the home at the time but did not answer the door, as he never ordered a pizza.
After the driver left the location, three masked suspects immediately smashed the rear sliding glass door and entered the residence, per the search warrant.
Police noted in their report that Wood then grabbed a firearm from his bedroom and fired three shots, causing the intruders to flee before they could steal any property.
Police Have Not Identified Suspects
Per TMZ Sports, cops later investigated the order at the Domino’s location. They said an employee told them an order was placed for Wood’s address that same day shortly before noon.
Cops were told that roughly a half hour later, a number called the establishment to ask whether the pizza had been delivered, and was told someone had attempted to fulfill the order but no one answered the door.
An attempt was made by the police to trace the phone number associated with the order, but the search did not yield any helpful identifying information.
The suspects, who have not been identified, remain at large.
Wood Played One Season With Lakers
Wood last played in the NBA with the Lakers in the 2023-24 season, averaging 6.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 17.4 minutes per game in 50 appearances (one start).
The UNLV product was waived by the Purple and Gold in February, and he remains unsigned.
Wood also spent time with the Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks, New Orleans Pelicans, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, and Dallas Mavericks.
In 339 career NBA regular-season games (140 starts) across eight seasons, Wood averaged 13.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 23.2 minutes per contest while shooting 51.4% from the field and 69.4% from the foul line.
