Fans React To US Open ‘Game, Set, Matchmaker’ Reality Series Premiering At This Year’s Tournament

For those who thought the US Open tennis tournament was going out of bounds with the reimagined US Open Mixed Doubles championship during fan week, I can only imagine what they are thinking about the recently announced US Open reality dating show being recorded during fan week and shown on YouTube the first week of the tournament.

I actually don’t have to imagine because many fans took to Twitter to express their thoughts, but I digress. Let’s first explain the concept.

US Open “Game, Set, Matchmaker” Reality Series

The US Open tennis tournament announced that a “tennis-savy” bachelorette known as “the Champion” will be matched with 7 people in her quest for a “real-life doubles partner.” 8 episodes are set to be filmed during fan week, and the series will air on YouTube during the tournament.

The tournament posted that the purpose of the series is to fuse “the emotional rollercoaster of a dating show with the electric energy of one of the world’s biggest sporting events…Through games, intimate dates, and exploring the iconic US Open grounds, there will be plenty to be excited about, even as she sends the men (the Challengers) home one by one. When two finalists remain, “the Champion” has a tough decision to make.”

Fans Do Not Like The Idea

Pavlo said: “Why are you turning a wonderful Grand Slam into Love Island.”

Rishi Kumar said: “Lol, cringe alert”

Gambling Tailor was hoping it was an ill-timed April Fool’s joke.

ArchEnemy33 said: “Stop ruining tennis. Whoever’s idea this was fire them immediately.”

Phil Naessens wrote: “Y’all must be drunk.”

Aunty Gauff posted: “Tacky as h%**! Wimbledon organisers would never do this sort of nonsense”

Winson Wong was spot on when he said: “Who asked for this. Promote your players.”

Steven Walk questioned whether the US Open X/Twitter site got hacked.

MishyMoo‘s GIF said it all.

@therealgloria may have said it best: “Really, this is the idea that you’ve come up with to attract new fans to tennis. Pathetic. Why not just show the fun of the game and the skills needed. Or perhaps you could have a shopping show say yes to the tennis outfit? Please. Stick to your own lane.”
