Mardy Fish is apparently ready to pounce on any opportunity to take a cheap shot at newly crowned Cincinnati men’s doubles champion Rajeev Ram.
Tennis journalist/analyst Jon Wertheim posted on social media shortly after Jannik Sinner’s retirement from the men’s final. He suggested that the illness would automatically rule out the Italian from the U.S. Open mixed doubles tournament beginning Tuesday and that Ram should be given a wildcard as a result.
Sinner was scheduled to participate in the two-day mixed doubles tournament. Ram won the Cincinnati men’s doubles event alongside Croatian Nikola Mektic.
Out of nowhere, Fish responded to the tweet saying, “How bout another actual tennis player?”

It’s worth noting that Ram is a six-time Grand Slam champion. He has won the U.S. Open men’s doubles event three times. The 41 year old has also won the ATP Finals twice. He earned the U.S. a silver medal in men’s doubles at the 2016 Olympics.
While the cheap shot came from out of the blue, the beef between these two American tennis players has been going strong for at least three years now.
Adding to the drama, another American player Tennys Sandgryn pointed out that Fish has a documentary discussing his mental health on Netflix and is now effectively bullying someone online.

What’s The Story Between Ram And Fish?
The beef between Fish and Ram dates back to at least the 2022 Davis Cup. Ram was an established doubles player on the American team for years at that point.
Fish was made the Davis Cup captain in 2019 in place of Jim Courier. In 2022, he left Ram off the team completely. For the tournament, a nation can have five players on the team. Not only did Fish leave Ram out, he simply chose not to name a fifth player.
“The thing that I had the biggest problem with, and the reason I feel like we didn’t do very well, is because we didn’t take a complete team,” Ram told Christopher Clarey’s Substack ‘Tennis And Beyond.’ “That’s something I’m honestly still probably not over. Do I think I should have been picked? Yeah, I do.
“That year, we had three players competing in the World Tour Finals. We had Taylor Fritz, Austin Krajicek and myself, and we left two on the bench. I don’t think any other country would have done that. Mardy’s blocked me on social media, so I’m gonna say no (laughs). We’ve not had a conversation since that day.”
Safe to say, these two won’t be sending each other holiday greetings anytime soon.
