Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo met with his teammates recently to shed light on the NBA trade rumors that are currently surrounding the future Hall of Famer.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Focused On Bucks
NBA insider Chris Haynes reported Tuesday night on NBA TV that Antetokounmpo spoke to his teammates in order to “stress the importance of focusing on basketball and not to allow outside distractions to interfere with the process at hand.”
Antetokounmpo reiterated that he’s still committed to the Bucks and is focused on working his way back from the strained calf injury that is expected to sideline him for two to four weeks.
The two-time NBA MVP reportedly also told his teammates that he “can’t control” what happens to him in the future, referring to whether he remains with the Bucks or gets traded.

Haynes’ report comes a week after ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Antetokounmpo and his agent, Alex Saratsis, are having conversations with the Bucks about the nine-time All-Star’s future.
Charania noted that Antetokounmpo and Saratsis are “discussing whether his best fit is staying or a move elsewhere. … A resolution to these talks is expected in the coming weeks.”
Dating back to the offseason, Antetokounmpo has been linked to teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, and New York Knicks, who the Greek Freak was at one point interested in playing for.
Per Charania, the Knicks were given “an exclusive negotiating window” over the course of “a multi-week period in August,” but no trade deal was reached with the Bucks.
Bucks Have Struggled Since 2021 NBA Finals
Although Milwaukee is 9-8 with Antetokounmpo this season, the Bucks are just 10-15 overall, placing them 10th in the Eastern Conference standings.
During the offseason, the Bucks retained key players such as Bobby Portis, Kevin Porter Jr., Gary Trent Jr., and Taurean Prince, while also waiving injured nine-time All-Star guard Damian Lillard and signing former Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner.
However, Milwaukee has been unable to win a second-round playoff series since 2022.
According to Spotrac, Antetokounmpo remains under contract through 2027-28, but he can become a free agent in the 2027 offseason if he declines his $62.8 million player option.
Per ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the Bucks star will be eligible for a four-year, $275 million maximum extension through the 2030-31 season, starting on Oct. 1, 2026.
If moved, he’d be able to sign the same deal with another team six months after a trade.
The 2026 NBA trade deadline is Feb. 5.
