“Now that our season is over, we felt it necessary to make this statement,” Mara said. “Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll will continue in their respective roles with the organization. As disappointing as the results of the season have been, [Steve] Tisch and I remain confident in the process that Joe and Brian have implemented and their vision for our team.
“We look forward to the future and achieving the results we all desire.”
It was a tumultuous season for the Giants in 2024. The 3-14 record (.176) is one of the worst in franchise history.
The Giants made multiple quarterback changes, with the biggest coming in December when the team benched Daniel Jones. The former first-round pick was later granted his release in November.
After Jones’ release, Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito, and Tim Boyle all played snaps for the Giants.
In 2023, the Giants went 6-11. After the season, the team let Saquon Barkley leave in free agency, with the Penn State product signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. As an Eagle, Barkley became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for at least 2,000 yards.
Daboll and Schoen’s best season came in 2022, their first in New York. The Giants went 9-7-1 and qualified for the postseason. The Giants upset the Minnesota Vikings in the wild-card round before falling to the Eagles in the divisional round.
Brian Daboll won Coach of the Year in 2022.
Giants Must Fix QB Position In 2025
The top of the 2025 NFL Draft:
1) Titans
2) Browns
3) Giants— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 5, 2025
Daboll and Schoen are on the hot seat entering the 2025 season. Besides winning football games, their number one task is to find a quarterback through the draft or free agency.
With their 3-14 record, the Giants secured the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders are believed to be the top two quarterbacks in this year’s class. The Titans are likely going to select a quarterback. The Browns could a quarterback as well.
Where does that leave the Giants? Well, New York will have to trade up if they believe Ward or Sanders are coming off the board with the first two picks.
New York will also have to bring in a veteran quarterback to serve as a backup or bridge to the rookie.
