Giants Team Needs: 5 Positions To Target In NFL Draft & Free Agency

The New York Giants are at a crossroads. Coming off a 3-14 record, it’s a do-or-die season for head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen. What are the Giants’ team needs this offseason? Here are five positions to target in the NFL Draft and free agency.
Quarterback
Just had @AdamSchefter on Talkin' Ball with Pat Leonard. He told me "there is no way in hell that the #Giants are giving up the third overall pick for Matthew Stafford" if trade talks ever occur. But it might not even come to that.

Quarterback is by far the Giants’ biggest need. Daniel Jones is out, and Tommy DeVito moves back to the bench.
Just ask Washington the importance of a quarterback, as Jayden Daniels led the Commanders to the NFC Championship.
The Giants are hoping to do the same in the draft. New York holds the No. 3 pick. The Titans (No. 1) and Cleveland Browns (No. 2) both need quarterbacks.
The Giants will likely have to trade up to draft Miami’s Cam Ward or Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.
Then, there’s Matthew Stafford, who is struggling to come to terms on an extension with the Rams. If the Rams cannot get a deal done, the team could shop Stafford, and the Giants might pony up and make the deal.
Wide Receiver
Malik Nabers end of season stats: 109-1204-7 (15 games)

The Giants found their future No. 1 wide receiver after selecting Malik Nabers in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Even without consistent quarterback play, Nabers still shined, catching 109 passes for 1204 yards and seven touchdowns.
After Nabers, the next crop of Giants’ pass-catchers is virtually non-existent. Wan’Dale Robinson was the No. 2 option with 93 catches. However, Robinson struggles in yards after the catch and frequently drops balls in big moments.
Would the Giants consider paying up for Cincinnati’s Tee Higgins? It’s going to cost about $30 million annually to sign Higgins. While the Giants will likely pass on Higgins, they should spend a Day 2 draft pick on a pass-catcher.
Cornerback
Two Deonte Banks stats that will shock you:
• Out of CB’s with 400 coverage snaps, Banks was 3rd (!!) in the NFL in average target separation
• Banks was 8th in tight window rate when targeted
Just desperately NEEDS to get better at the catch point

The Giants elected to play young talent in 2024 to mixed results.
Dru Phillips, Tre Hawkins III, and Cor’Dale Flott all showed flashes of potential.
Unfortunately, Deonte Banks had a disappointing season.
The Giants need to bring in a veteran defensive back for this room full of first- and second-year players.
Offensive Line
This O-Line would feed.
LT Andrew Thomas
LG Evan Neal
C JMS
RG Trey Smith

The Giants lose key members of their offensive line to injury, forcing the coaches to create a makeshift unit.
That has happened in the last three seasons.
The Giants need offensive line depth badly. Andrew Thomas isn’t going anywhere at left tackle. The team needs to figure out what to do with Evan Neal.
Schoen did not draft an offensive lineman in 2024. That must change in 2025.

The best Giants’ teams followed this blueprint: rush the passer with four and drop seven. It’s a formula that never fails. Ask the 2007 Giants or the 2024 Eagles.
Theoretically, the Giants have three of four positions covered: DE Brian Burns, DE Kayvon Thibodeaux, and DT Dexter Lawrence.
It’s time for Schoen to find the fourth (and fifth and sixth) guy to bolster this defensive line.
A recent mock draft had the Giants taking Michigan DT Mason Graham.
