Grading Blackhawks trade of Lukas Reichel to Canucks

There was a trade made between the Chicago Blackhawks and Vancouver Canucks on Friday. The Blackhawks have traded Lukas Reichel of Nuremberg, Germany to the Canucks for a fourth round pick in the 2027 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Second NHL franchise

The Canucks are Reichel’s second NHL franchise. He has played the last five seasons with the Blackhawks.

Reichel’s 2025-26 NHL statistics

Reichel had two goals and two assists for four points in five games with Chicago. He was a +1 with two penalty minutes, six shots on goal, two faceoff wins, three blocked shots, one hit, one takeaway, and four giveaways.

Reichel’s most notable game of the season came on October 15 in an 8-3 Blackhawks win over the St. Louis Blues. Reichel had two goals and one assist for three points. Reichel’s first point put the Blackhawks up 2-1.  He scored from defenseman Matt Grzelcyk of Charlestown, Massachusetts at 5:23 of the first period. Reichel’s second point put the Blackhawks up 3-2 at 2:49 of the second period. He scored from defenseman Alex Vlasic of Willmette, Illinois and Connor Bedard of North Vancouver, British Columbia. Reichel’s third point put the Blackhawks up 8-3 with seven minutes and 39 seconds left in the third period. Reichel’s assist set up Ryan Greene of Paradise, Newfoundland for his first ever NHL goal.

On October 19, 2025, Reichel had his only takeaway of the season in a 2-1 Blackhawks win over the Anaheim Ducks. Then on Thursday, Reichel picked up his second assist of the season. He set up Ryan Donato of Boston, Massachusetts at 10:16 of the second period in a 3-2 Blackhawks win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Donato’s goal put the Blackhawks up 2-1 at the time.

Reichel’s 2024-25 NHL stats

Last season Reichel had eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points. He was a -16 with 12 penalty minutes, one game-winning goal, two power-play points, 72 shots on goal, 142 faceoff wins, 29 blocked shots, 24 hits, 13 takeaways and 36 giveaways.

Both of Reichel’s power-play points came against the Anaheim Ducks. With Reichel’s first power-play point, he set up defensemen Seth Jones of Arlington, Texas in a 4-2 Blackhawks win over the Anaheim Ducks on November 3, 2024. With Reichel’s second power-play point, he set up Pat Maroon of St. Louis, Missouri in a 6-3 Blackhawks win over the Ducks on March 1, 2025. In the same 6-3 Chicago win over Anaheim, he had his only game-winning goal of the season. He scored from Craig Smith of Madison, Wisconsin and defensenan Alec Martinez of Rochester Hills, Michigan. Reichel’s goal put Chicago up 4-2 at  4:53 of the third period.

Trade Grades

Reichel is to play on the Canucks’s second line with Brock Boeser and Evander Kane. To be able to get a projected second line forward for a fourth round pick two years from now, Vancouver gets a B- grade. We won’t know what Chicago gets for two years. A fourth round pick will probably not be significant. Chicago gets a trade grade of C-.
