Nine-time Grand Slam doubles champion Kristina Mladenovic, 31, took to social media to share her thoughts on the WTA‘s rebranding campaign.

For those who hadn’t seen it, the WTA teased “change was coming” in social media posts last week before making the big reveal on Thursday.

Fans did not particularly care for the new look, and Mladenovic is the first player to agree with them publicly.

WTA Rebrand

The purple background with a tennis player silhouette in white is gone.  It is replaced with a green background and the WTA letters in upper case.

The new tagline is “Rally the World.”

Fans initially commented that the green background is synonymous with the ITF and Challenger tours, the steps below the WTA and ATP levels.  One also noted that the font for the letters is eerily similar to the font used by the IGA supermarket chain.

Another fan noted that “Rally the World” is more appropriate for a charity concert.

What Kristina Mladenovic Said

Mladenovic tweeted images of the old and new logos and wrote: “Wondering how you can come up with this? and who approves? Green and white? No tennis details? What does it represent? Previous logo was so much better.”

While there has been some positive feedback, the negative comments are more plentiful.  It will be interesting to see if the WTA refines the logo and rebranding in the coming weeks and months.
