Has Kevin Durant Played His Last Game For The Phoenix Suns?

It looked like the Phoenix Suns were going to become championship contenders when they acquired Kevin Durant at the trade deadline in 2023. But things haven’t gone as planned over the past couple of years, and there is a chance that the 36-year-old superstar has played his last game with the franchise upon the news of his latest injury.
Kevin Durant Ruled Out At Least A Week With Ankle Injury
There are multiple factors that have gone into the recent failures of the Suns. The team is on its third head coach since Durant was acquired, and the Bradley Beal experiment wound up being a complete disappointment.
But it is safe to say that none of the shortcomings had anything to do with a dip in production out of Durant himself. He has averaged 26.8 points per game during his time in Phoenix, and he has maintained an All-Star level of play while qualifying for Second-Team All-NBA just a season ago. It has been the parts and system around him that have been a failure, and things got bad enough that rumors of the team trading him became very real during the most recent deadline in early February.
After suffering a nasty-looking ankle sprain in Sunday’s loss against the Houston Rockets, it has been announced that Kevin Durant will miss at least the next week while he recovers. It might not only mark the end of the playoff chase for the Suns during the 2024-25 season, but it could mean that Durant has played his final game with the team.
Phoenix Suns All-Star Kevin Durant is expected to miss at least one week through team’s three-game road trip with a left ankle sprain, sources tell ESPN. Suns are 1.5 games out of Play-In with the toughest remaining schedule in the NBA.

Phoenix is currently 1.5 games out of the 10th and final Play-In spot in the Western Conference, and have the toughest remaining schedule of any team in the NBA. They’ll need an unusually successful finish to the regular season, which will be made difficult without the availability of their leading scorer.
And given their willingness to include him in mid-season trade talks, the Suns could be looking to move off of the final year of Durant’s contract, one that is scheduled to pay him over $54 million in 2025-26. There should be teams around the NBA that are willing to take on the money in order to acquire one of the greatest scorers that the game has ever seen, so Phoenix won’t have any shortage of options when it comes to shuffling the future of their roster.
The Suns will start a three game road trip on Tuesday by taking on the Milwaukee Bucks and they’ll see the Celtics and Knicks before returning home and re-evaluating the injury to Durant. It won’t get any easier, though, as their next two games will come against the Warriors and Thunder.
