Very few people would have predicted that Iga Swiatek would win the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. The former World No. 1 seemingly fell into a slump after the 2024 Paris Olympics, and many wrote her off.
That’s why it is extremely fitting that Swiatek won Wimbledon, her first-ever grass court title, in 2025. This was the year that the seeded players were upset right and left in the tournament that has not produced a repeat champion in nearly a decade.

Swiatek quieted the naysayers by changing her game, one that was always deemed unsuitable for grass with her grip and clay court tendencies. She deserves all the roses and accolades from the very same people who harshly criticized her in the past year.
What The Win Means For Iga Swiatek
To begin with, she is 6-0 in Grand Slam finals. If she gets there, she wins. That’s an impressive stat.
Add to that, she has now won a Grand Slam on every surface. Her peers, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff, have not done that.
She is also 3/4 of the way to a career Grand Slam. The Australian Open is the only one left.
Swiatek is only 24 years old.
Is Swiatek Now A Grass Court Specialist?
Iga Swiatek is known for her tremendous clay court game. She seemed as surprised as anyone that she won Wimbledon. Mary Joe Fernandez asked her after the win if she is a grass court specialist now. Her answer was telling. She didn’t think she was and recognized that adding a slice and drop shots could get her there.
This is an athlete committed to the process of improving and may not have reached the peak of her game.
She was a gracious champion, considerate and respectful to Amanda Anisimova who regretfully emptied her tank in the tremendous semifinal win over Aryna Sabalenka. It may not have been the Wimbledon anyone was expecting, but it was a special one nevertheless.
