Indiana Now Ranked No.3 In AP Top 25; Highest In Program History

Thanks to their 6-0 start, the University of Indiana football team now has their highest AP Poll ranking in the 127-year history of the program.

Indiana Hoosiers Ranked No. 3 In AP Top 25

On Sunday afternoon, the latest college football AP Top 25 was released. The top two remained the same, with Ohio State and Miami maintaining their positions at No. 1 and No. 2, but the rest of the order underwent some serious shifting.

The biggest story is the jump up the rankings by Indiana. After being ranked 7th last week, they were able to pick up a huge statement victory on Saturday, as they defeated the then-No. 3 Oregon Ducks in the biggest matchup of the weekend. The 30-20 win was the second defeat of a top-10 team by the Hoosiers so far this year, as they demolished then-No.9 Illinois by a score of 63-10 back on September 20th.

Heading into the matchup with Oregon, the Hoosiers carried an 0-46 record on the road against top-five opponents and had never been ranked higher than No. 4 prior to Sunday.

Indiana now comes in at No. 3, and even received three first place votes. Oregon dropped four spots, and are now ranked No. 8.

One of the largest drops of any team belongs to Oklahoma. The Sooners were ranked No. 6 heading into last weekend, but suffered their first loss in a 23-6 defeat at the hands of Texas. Speaking of the Longhorns, they are now listed at No. 21 after being out of the top-25 rankings completely last week.

The latest rankings saw major turnover, with five teams — Michigan, Illinois, Arizona State, Iowa State, and Florida State — falling out. It’s the most significant reshuffling of a regular-season poll since seven teams were dropped on October 2, 2022.
