The Winnipeg Jets are struggling big time at the moment. Their Presidents’ Trophy they won last season seems like a long time ago.
For only the second time in the history of the Jets/Atlanta Thrashers franchise, the Jets have lost 10 games in a row. You have to go back to the 1999-2000 season to see a Thrashers team that played 10 straight games and could not get into the win column. Atlanta lost 10 straight from February 25, 2000 to March 16, 2000.
The Jets losing streak started on December 15 when they lost 3-2 to the Ottawa Senators. Since then, the Jets lost 1-0 to the St. Louis Blues on December 17, 3-2 to the Colorado Avalanche on December 19, 4-3 to the Utah Mammoth on December 21, 4-3 to the Minnesota Wild on December 27, 3-1 to the Edmonton Oilers on December 29, 2-1 to the Detroit Red Wings on New Year’s Eve, 6-5 to the Toronto Maple Leafs on New Year’s Day, 4-2 to the Ottawa Senators on January 3, and 4-3 to the Vegas Golden Knights in overtime on January 4. During the 10 game streak, the Jets were never blown out in a single contest. In their 3-1 loss to the Oilers, they clearly outplayed the Oilers, but Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard was outstanding, and was better than Connor Hellebuyck. During the 10 game streak, the Jets have been outscored 34-22.
Could not protect Tuesday’s lead
On Tuesday, the Jets had a 3-2 lead over the Vegas Golden Knights with under five minutes left, but lost 4-3. Reilly Smith of Mimico, Ontario tied the game with four minutes and five seconds left, and Tomas Hertl of Praha, Czech Republic won the game with 13 seconds left in overtime on the power-play. It was a big Tuesday for Hertl as earlier on Tuesday he was named to the Czech Olympic team for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Five goals not enough
Even when the Jets scored five times, they still could not win. That is because Eric Comrie was terrible on New Year’s Day as he gave up six goals.
Fourth loss in overtime during the streak
The Jets have lost four games in overtime during the streak. In addition to their extra time loss to the Golden Knights, the Jets have lost in overtime to the Senators, Wild and Mammoth.
Worst in the NHL
The Jets have 35 points. That is the fewest number of points in the NHL.
