Jakobi Meyers Contract: Jaguars Sign WR To 3-Year Extension

Jakobi Meyers and the Jacksonville Jaguars agreed to terms on a contract extension.

Jakobi Meyers Signs New Contract

The Jaguars have liked their early returns on the Meyers trade so much so that they’ve rewarded the receiver with an extension.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Meyers and the Jaguars have agreed to a three-year, $60 million contract, with $40 million guaranteed.

Meyers has 453 catches for 5,299 yards and 23 touchdowns in seven seasons.

The contract comes six weeks after the Jaguars traded a 2026 fourth-round pick and a sixth-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for Meyers.

Instead of allowing Meyers to test free agency, the Jaguars lock up the 29-year-old before the regular season ends.

Before the season began, Meyers met with the Raiders’ brass and requested a trade. The two sides could not agree on an extension, leading to the trade request.

Meyers played the first seven games with the Raiders before requesting another trade before the deadline.

This time, the Raiders listened and dealt Meyers to the Jaguars.

Meyers has been an excellent addition to the Jaguars’ offense. Meyers has 27 catches for 255 yards and three touchdowns in six games with the Jaguars.

More importantly, the Jaguars are 5-1 and averaging 31.8 points in Meyers’ six games.

Jaguars’ Postseason Outlook

It’s been a promising year for first-year head coach Liam Coen.

Besides cringeworthy Duval during his introductory press conference, Coen has been a terrific hire for Jacksonville.

After a 35-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, the Jaguars headed into the bye with a 4-3 record. Since the bye, the Jaguars have won six of seven games.

Thanks to a five-game winning streak and a 25-3 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 30, the Jaguars now sit atop the AFC South standings with a 10-4 record.

Trevor Lawrence looks like a completely different quarterback this season. Since the Meyers trade, Lawrence has thrown for 14 touchdown passes and five interceptions.

If the Jaguars win their final three games of the season, then Jacksonville wins the AFC South and earns a home playoff game.

The Jaguars’ final three games of the season are at Denver, at Indianapolis, and vs. Tennessee.

The Jaguars can clinch a playoff berth this weekend with a win over the Broncos and either a Houston or Indianapolis loss.

Jacksonville plays Denver on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET.
