The NFL has ruled on Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Jalen Carter following his ejection in Week 1.

NFL Disciplines Eagles DL Jalen Carter

After the opening kickoff in the game between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles, Carter drew a flag for spitting on Dak Prescott. Carter was ejected from the game.

Less than one week later, the NFL has a ruling.

The NFL has fined Carter $57,222 for spitting on Prescott. Carter has also been suspended for one game without pay. The catch is that his ejection will serve as his suspension.

“Jalen Carter of the Philadelphia Eagles has been suspended without pay for one game for his act of unsportsmanlike conduct in last Thursday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys,” the NFL’s memo on Carter reads via NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. “Because Carter was disqualified before participating in a single play, the suspension is considered to have been served in Week 1, and he will forfeit his game check.

“The NFL Players Association has informed the NFL that Carter will not contest the discipline and has waived his right to appeal. He is eligible to participate in the club’s Week 2 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.”

Following the Eagles’ win over the Cowboys, Carter apologized for the incident.

“You know it was a mistake that happened on my side, and it just won’t happen again,” Carter told reporters after the win. “I feel bad for just my teammates and the fans out there. You know, I’m doing it for them. I’m doing it for my family also, but the fans, they show the most love. You heard them out there, and not being able to start the game to finish the game just f— me up, but it won’t happen again.”

Eagles Face Chiefs In Super Bowl Rematch

The NFL allowing Carter to use Week 1 as his suspension is huge for the Eagles. Carter is now eligible to play for the Eagles when they face the Kansas City Chiefs in Arrowhead in a rematch of Super Bowl LIX.

The Eagles’ defensive line sacked Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes six times in the 40-22 victory.

Without Carter against the Cowboys, the Eagles’ defensive line did not record a sack. If Philadelphia doesn’t record a sack on Sunday, the Chiefs might come away with a victory in what could be the Game of the Year.

The Eagles (1-0) face the Chiefs (0-1) on Sept. 14 at 4:25 p.m. ET on FOX.
