The Washington Commanders not only lost in Week 2, but it could have cost them their quarterback.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Daniels suffered a left knee sprain in Week 2’s 27-18 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Daniels’ status for Week 3’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders is in doubt.
If Daniels can’t play, it would be the first missed start of his career. Backup quarterback Marcus Mariota would likely be the starter if Daniels can’t go.
While speaking to the media on Monday, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn revealed that Daniels underwent an MRI and is considered day-to-day. The team will know more about Daniels’ status by Wednesday, the team’s first practice of the week.
After a sensational rookie campaign, Daniels has gotten off to a slow start in 2025.
Daniels threw for 233 yards and a touchdown in the Commanders’ 21-6 win over the Giants in Week 1. Daniels also rushed for 68 yards.
The Packers defense stifled the Commanders’ offense in Week 2. Washington only managed 230 yards of total offense and did not score a touchdown until the fourth quarter.
Daniels finished 24 of 42 for two touchdowns. However, Daniels was running for his life the entire night, as the improved Packers defense registered four sacks.
Mariota entered two games last year in relief of Daniels. Mariota put up extremely solid numbers: 33 of 41 for 366 yards and four touchdowns.
Mariota, the former No. 2 pick in 2015, is in his second season with the Commanders. Mariota signed a one-year, $8 million contract to return to the Commanders this offseason.

Daniels is the latest name on a long list of Commanders’ players who have suffered injuries.

With Ekeler and Wise out for the season, the Commanders signed defensive end Jalyn Holmes and wide receiver Chris Moore.
Other notable injuries include wide receiver Noah Brown (groin), tight end John Bates (groin), and cornerback Jonathan Jones (hamstring). The statuses of those players are unknown.
The Commanders (1-1) host the Raiders (1-0) in Week 3.
