The Washington Commanders provided an optimistic injury update on quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Jayden Daniels Injury Update

In the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 38-14 loss to Seattle, Daniels suffered a left arm injury. Daniels left the game and wore a brace into the locker room.

Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow, and the team initially feared that their quarterback would miss significant time. On Friday, head coach Dan Quinn revealed that Daniels will not need surgery. Instead of being placed on injured reserve, the Commanders will evaluate the injury during their bye in Week 12.

“I thought it was a good process, like all the players do to get second opinions and getting all the information on what to do and how to do it,” Quinn said to the media via Commanders.com. “It’s a good deal with no surgery. Obviously, that makes a big difference when you have an injury not to go down that road.”

After the bye in Week 12, the Commanders have six games remaining on the schedule. Quinn did not say if Daniels will play in any of those six.

Since the injury looked much worse at the time, the Commanders dodged a bullet for now.

However, the elbow is the latest injury that has kept Daniels out of action this season. The second-year quarterback missed two games with a knee sprain and one game with a hamstring injury.

Commanders’ Season Heading the Wrong Way

After reaching the NFC Championship in 2024, expectations for the Commanders heading into 2025 were high.

After Daniels missed two games with an injury, the Commanders entered Week 5’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers with a 2-2 record. Daniels looked like his 2024 self with 270 total yards and one touchdown in a 27-10 victory.

Since the Chargers’ win, the Commanders have lost four consecutive games to fall to 3-6.

Washington’s defense is getting gashed seemingly every week. The defense ranks 28th in total defense (377.8 yards).

Injuries have derailed any Commanders’ offensive momentum. Top Commanders pass catchers — including Terry McLaurin (quad), Luke McCaffrey (collarbone, IR), and Noah Brown (groin, IR) — have all been injured.

At quarterback, the Commanders now turn to Marcus Mariota, who is 1-2 as the starter this season.

The Commanders host the Lions (5-3) on Nov. 9.
