Jayden Daniels On Track To Return For Commanders In Week 5

After winning the Rookie of the Year award in 2024, it has been a tough start to the current season for Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. But there was finally some good news out of the team’s training facility on Wednesday, as it was revealed that Daniels has been medically cleared by team doctors, and will be a full participant in practice this week.

Daniels originally suffered a knee injury during the Commanders’ Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers. He subsequently missed the next two games, and it was veteran journeyman Marcus Mariota who took his place under center. There were hopes that Daniels would be able to return in Week 4 against the Atlanta Falcons, but the team held him out to ensure that he was fully healthy when he came back into the lineup.

Given that he was attempting to play last week, there should be no lingering effects going forward, and Washington is hoping that he can help get the team back on track.

After making it all the way to the NFC Championship game in 2024, the Commanders have started the 2025 campaign with a 2-2 record. They are already two games back of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East standings, and their schedule will only get tougher.

On Sunday, Jayden Daniels and the Commanders are set to fly cross-country and visit the Los Angeles Chargers, who still have one of the league’s top defenses despite coming off of a loss last weekend. They’ll then have a prime time showdown with the Chicago Bears in Week 6, before hitting the road for two straight contests against the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs.

During the first two games of the season that Daniels participated in, he completed fewer than 60% of his passes, but saw a slight uptick in his yard per game average over his rookie campaign. He racked up 433 yards through the air and added two touchdowns, and posted 85 rushing yards on 18 attempts.
