Jelena Ostapenko Stops Iga Swiatek’s Four-Peat Hopes At Doha

Jelena Ostapenko is one of the few players who can dominate Iga Swiatek. The 27-year-old Latvian entered the 2025 Qatar TotalEnergies Open semifinal against Swiatek with a 4-0 career record, and Ostapenko has played great tennis this week shutting out Jasmine Paolini and Ons Jabeur.
Ostapenko continued her winning ways with a resounding 6-3, 6-1 defeat of World No. 2 Iga Swiatek who won this Doha tournament in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Her power causes Swiatek a lot of trouble. Ostapenko was all smiles afterward as she advanced to the Doha final. She awaits the winner of the semifinal between Amanda Anisimova and Ekaterina Alexandrova. Ostapenko admitted that she loves everything about this tournament including the atmosphere, fans, and courts, and she knows how to handle Swiatek.
“I know how to play against her.” 💯

Ostapenko is currently ranked World No. 37 but could find herself near the Top 20 when the rankings are updated.
Jelena Ostapenko’s Game Has Always Been There
Ostapenko has always had the shots. She is a singles and doubles Grand Slam champion. There have been times when she struggled to manage her emotions on the court.
She can win on any surface. Her singles Grand Slam was on the clay at Roland Garros as the 2017 French Open champion. Ostapenko’s doubles Grand Slam happened on the hardcourts last fall at the US Open paired with Lyudmyla Kichenok.
Ostapenko has eight WTA singles titles and ten doubles titles. Her recent success has been in doubles, but if she continues to play as she has in Doha this week, that could change.
