Micah Parsons walks off the field.

While speaking with Michael Irvin, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealed his contract offer to Micah Parsons would have made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

Jerry Jones Reveals Contract Offer To Micah Parsons

The situation between Jones and Parsons continues to escalate. Both sides have spoken to the media to air their grievances, and this saga only deteriorates by the day.

On Irvin’s YouTube channel, Jones spoke to his former Hall of Fame receiver about Parsons’ contract situation.

According to Jones, he and Parsons discussed the terms of the contract in March. Once his agent, David Mulugheta, got involved, Parsons rejected Jones’ offer.

“Micah and I talked, and then we were going to send it over to the agent. We had our agreements on term, amounts, guarantees, everything,” Jones said. “We were going to send it over to the agent, and the agent said, ‘Don’t bother, because we’ve got all that to negotiate.'”

“Well, I had already negotiated. I had already moved off my mark on several areas. And so the issue very frankly, is we’ve had the negotiation in my mind, and the agent’s trying to get his nose in it right now and try to come in there and improve off the market we had already set.”

What was the offer? While Jones didn’t reveal the specific number, he did say that the contract would have made Parsons the highest-paid defensive player in the league.

“I’ve agreed to give more money than has ever been given in terms of guaranteed money than anyone ever has as far as a defensive player,” Jones said. “I’ve done that. Now, I am the cat that writes the check. Now Micah’s got three years with the Cowboys left. He’s got three years. At some point somebody has to have the say over the other. At some point it has to be that way.”

Pittsburgh’s T.J. Watt is currently the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league after signing a three-year, $123 million contract extension, with $108 million guaranteed. Watt’s contract carries an average annual salary of $41 million.

Cleveland’s Myles Garrett — who signed a four-year, $160 million contract earlier this offseason — has the highest guarantee for a non-quarterback at $123.5 million.

Jones previously mentioned that Parsons would be making somewhere “close to $200 million” in guaranteed money.

Jerry Jones Unhappy With David Mulugheta

Judging by the comments said to Irvin, Jones’ issue appears to be with Mulugheta, not Parsons.

Jones blamed Mulugheta for pulling Parsons’ contract extension off the table.

“When we wanted to send the details to the agent, the agent told us to stick it up our ass,” Jones said. “Just so you’re clear.”

According to ESPN’s Ryan Clark, Mulugheta said, “I’ve never used that phrase in my life.”
