The 2025 season has been an emotional rollercoaster for the Jets. In head coach Aaron Glenn’s first year, the team started 0-7. New York then rattled off two wins in a row.
Since then, the Jets are 1-4 in their last five for a 3-11 record. The team has been without WR Garret Wilson for five consecutive games. Wilson suffered a knee sprain in Week 9 vs. the Browns. On Friday, December 19, Aaron Glenn announced that Garrett Wilson is being shut down for the remainder of the year.
New York has no reason to rush Garrett Wilson back with a 3-11 record

With the 10th overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, the Jets selected WR Garrett Wilson out of Ohio State. As a rookie, Wilson played in all 17 games for New York and made 12 starts. He finished the year with 83 catches for 1,103 yards and three receiving touchdowns. That was enough for Wilson to be named AP Offensive Rookie of the Year. Over the first three seasons of his career, he played in all 17 games for the Jets and finished the year with at least 1,000 receiving yards.
Unfortunately, that streak came to an end for Wilson in his fourth professional season. Head coach Aaron Glenn announced Friday that Garrett Wilson is being shut down for the remainder of the year. By season’s end, he’ll have missed 10 games for New York. That’s after not missing a game over his first three seasons.

Aaron Glenn told the media that Garrett Wilson was “on board” with the decision. At 3-11, it doesn’t make sense for the Jets to rush him back. Keeping Wilson healthy is in the best interest of the team. Glenn mentioned having Wilson back at full strength for the start of the offseason program. That is another priority for New York.
Garrett Wilson is a foundational piece for the Jets. In July 2025, he signed a four-year, $130 million extension with New York. Over his first four years with the team, the Jets have had a rotating cast of QBs. Wilson and the rest of the offense need stability. The team traded Sauce Gardner and Quinen Williams at the deadline. New York has plenty of draft capital to go out and find their new QB.
