Any Rookie QB (+250)
There are just two quarterback prospects that are considered to be in the top-tier for the 2025 NFL Draft, and it is unclear if either of them will be available when the Jets are on the clock. Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders have been at the top of the list since the conclusion of the college football season, with most projections having them being picked within the top-5 during April’s selection process. But the Jets hold the 7th overall pick, and it would be unlikely for either of the QB prospects to drop that far down the board.
Would New York be interested in trading up in order to nab their guy? Or could they wait until the second round in order to select someone like Jaxon Dart or Jalen Milroe? Either way, the odds say that a rookie quarterback is the best bet to start for the Jets in 2025.
Justin Fields (+300) or Russell Wilson (+400)
One of the teams that has a similarly unclear quarterback situation for 2025 is the Steelers. After a season that saw both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson gets starts under center, what Pittsburgh plans to do with the two veterans is still up in the air. Depending on how things go for them in the draft and free agency process, there is a chance that neither will be back for 2025.
Would the Jets hold the door open for their of them? Fields is the younger option who has more upside, but he has failed to live up to his billing as a first round draft pick. Wilson has a history of winning in the NFL, but hasn’t been anywhere near elite since leaving the Seahawks after the 2021 campaign. Either player would be a stop-gap for the Jets, and would likely join the team on a one-year contract.
Sam Darnold (+500)
Sam Darnold wouldn’t come back to the place where he had a miserable start to his career, would he? The soon-to-be 28-year-old was drafted third overall by New York back in 2018, and finished his time there with a 13-25 overall record. He has played for three other teams since, only finding true success with one of them. But it was just this past season when Darnold looked like a top-tier passer in the NFL, as he had a career year with the Vikings before falling apart at the end of the regular season and in the playoffs.
Darnold showed that he still has some juice left and is capable of being at least an above-average QB in the league, and would likely come at a relatively low price tag given how he finished the 2024 season off.
