Hello, friends. CBS Sports broadcaster Jim Nantz has revealed when he plans to retire from calling the Masters.

When Does Jim Nantz Plans To Retire From Broadcasting Golf?

No broadcaster is more synonymous with the Masters than Nantz.

The 65-year-old has been broadcasting the Masters from Augusta National since 1986.

As he prepares to call his 40th Masters, Nantz already has a date in mind for his retirement.

While speaking with Bunkered, Nantz revealed that he plans to be part of the Masters’ broadcast for the rest of the decade. However, Nantz has his eye on a special edition of the Masters for his swan song at Augusta.

“If all the stars aligned, right now, it feels like a pretty good exit point. April 14, 2036. That is my scheduled retirement date,” Nantz said. “It would be a perfect place to walk out.”

The 2036 Masters would be his 51st Masters and the 100th edition of the historic tournament.

For Nantz to walk away in 2036, Nantz needs a few things to go his way.

“First off, my health would have to hold up,” Nantz admitted. “Secondly, CBS and Augusta National would have to want me to come back.”

Despite announcing his retirement date, Nantz did include a special clause that, if things go right, could allow him to keep broadcasting from Augusta.

“I know what’s going to happen. I’m going to get to that year, and I’m going to say, ‘You know, maybe I could do this for a while longer,'” Nantz said. “We have broadcasters over here that have gone on well into their 80s, so that’s one of those ‘wait and sees’, I guess.”

Jim Nantz’s Current Broadcasting Duties

Nantz has been one of the premier broadcasters since the 1980s.

Nantz specializes in three sports: football, college basketball, and golf.

Since 2004, Nantz has been the lead play-by-play broadcaster for the NFL on CBS. Nantz is on CBS’ top NFL broadcast team alongside Tony Romo.

From 1990-2023, Nantz was the lead broadcaster for CBS’ coverage of the NCAA men’s college basketball tournament. Ian Eagle replaced Nantz on the lead broadcast team beginning with the 2024 tournament.

Nantz has been calling the Masters for 40 years. He anchors the PGA Tour on CBS alongside Trevor Immelman.
