J.J. Spaun Captures 2025 U.S. Open

While standing on the 18th green, Spaun needed a two-putt to secure even-par and win the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont.

Why play it safe when you can end it with one putt?

That’s what Spaun did, as he nailed a 64½-foot birdie putt to win the U.S. Open.

Spaun was the only golfer under par, finishing the tournament at 1-under 279. Spaun defeated Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre by two shots.

Spaun’s final round got off to a horrific start, with bogeys on five of his first six holes. Then, the skies opened up and unleashed buckets of rain, leading to a nearly 90-minute relay delay.

The break was exactly what Spaun needed to make a final push.

Spaun birdied four of his last seven holes, none more important than the last two.

Spaun hit the shot of his life on the par-4 17th hole. The 34-year-old pulled the driver on the 309-yard hole and put it to 18 feet. Spaun missed the eagle but converted on the birdie to take the lead by one stroke.

The 2025 U.S. Open is Spaun’s first major championship and second PGA win overall. Spaun previously won the Valero Texas Open in August 2022.

The win launches Spaun to sixth in the FedEx Cup rankings.
