There are only a few games remaining in the 2025 NFL season, and the MVP award is Matthew Stafford’s to lose. But if he does relinquish his lead in the betting odds, it could be because of Josh Allen and his late-season surge.
Does Josh Allen Have A Chance Of Winning NFL MVP In 2025?
Allen and the Buffalo Bills (10-4) have caught fire at the right time, combining a three-game win streak and a dramatic comeback win over the New England Patriots. Buffalo rallied from a 21-point deficit to win 35-31 in Foxborough, a signature moment that has re-opened the debate for Allen being named the most valuable player in back-to-back seasons.
Allen’s performance in that win helped snap New England’s 10-game winning streak and keep Buffalo’s chances in the AFC East alive.
It also shifted the betting odds. The MVP chase was looking as though it would be a two-man affair, with Matthew Stafford holding a slim lead over Drake Maye. But due to New England’s loss, Josh Allen has rejoined the conversation. Heading into the weekend, Allen is listed at +425, or implied odds of 19%, with Maye sitting at +300 (25%).

Allen’s season started out a bit pedestrian, at least by his standards. After a near 400 passing yard performance in Week 1, he failed to go over 275 in any of the next seven contests, but kept his production up by being a double threat. He truly began making a comeback in the MVP conversation with a 6 total touchdown performance in Week 11, and Allen continues to gain traction thanks to a three game winning streak.
Stafford would have to falter heavily in the Rams’ final two games of the season if Maye or Allen want any shot at the award. Despite Thursday night’s loss, Stafford is still in the driver’s seat when it comes to the betting odds, as he has a -225 designation heading into the weekend (69%).
