Josh Jacobs: Packers Need No. 1 WR. Will It Be Davante Adams?

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs believes the team needs a “proven” No. 1 wide receiver for next season. Could that involve a reunion with Davante Adams?

While speaking with Milwaukee radio station 97.3 The Game, Jacobs addressed what the team needs to add this offseason. At the top of Jacobs’ wishlist is a true No. 1 receiver.
“We’ve got a really young group of receivers; all can be really, really, really special,” Jacobs told 97.3 The Game. “But I think, personally, we need a guy that’s proven to be a No. 1 already — somebody we know that’s going to be a little more consistent.”
Jacobs, who just completed his first season with the team, rushed for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns. Jacobs also finished fifth on the team with 36 catches.
The Packers have employed a wide receiver-by-committee approach the past few seasons. The young Packers receiving corps in 2024 included Jayden Reed (55 catches for 957 yards and six touchdowns), Romeo Doubs (46 catches for 601 yards and four touchdowns), Dontayvion Wicks (39 catches for 415 yards and five touchdowns), and Christian Watson (29 catches for 620 yards and two touchdowns).
Tight end Tucker Kraft added 50 catches for 707 yards and seven touchdowns.
While the committee is talented, the Packers have not had a 1,000-yard receiver since 2021. Green Bay has also not selected a wide receiver in the first round since 2002.
Would The Packers Bring Back Davante Adams?

Who was that receiver in 2021 with the 1,000-yard season? That would be Davante Adams, the former Packer who played for Green Bay from 2014 to 2021.
Adams is currently under contract with the New York Jets.
However, the Jets have a new head coach and general manager. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers might also not be under center in 2025.
If the Jets opt to rebuild, they could either look to trade Adams or cut him.
Would the Packers even want a reunion with Adams? While he doesn’t make personnel decisions, Jacobs would be open to pairing Adams with Jordan Love.
“If he come at the right price, if he come at the right price, tell him it’s live,” Jacobs jokingly said during the interview.
The Packers could explore other options at receiver this offseason. Cooper Kupp and Tee Higgins are two of the biggest names on the trade and free agency market.
