Jones announced his retirement on Friday via social media.
“Today I’m announcing my retirement,” Jones said in a video message. “It started when I was 8 years old, just a kid in Foley, Alabama. It was an amazing ride.”
Jones thanked former players, coaches, and the city of Atlanta for supporting him throughout his illustrious career. Jones mentioned that he retired on April 4 to celebrate 404 Day in Atlanta, which honors the city’s culture and spirit.
Jones played for three seasons under Nick Saban at Alabama. Jones and the Crimson Tide won the 2009 BCS National Championship.
After college, the Atlanta Falcons selected Jones with the No. 6 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
In 10 seasons with the Falcons, Jones emerged as one of the league’s top receivers. Jones is Atlanta’s all-time leader in receptions (848) and receiving yards (12,896). Jones is second all-time in touchdowns (61).
After his tenure in Atlanta, Jones played for the Tennessee Titans (2021), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2022), and Philadelphia Eagles (2023). Jones did not play in the 2024 season.
Jones ends his career with 914 receptions, 13,703 receiving yards, and 66 touchdowns.

After a 13-year career, will Jones earn a spot in Canton?
One word: yes.
Jones will one day wear a gold jacket after being selected for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Jones is the fastest player ever to reach these receiving milestones: 10,000 yards, 11,000 yards, 12,000 yards, and 13,000 yards.
Since Jones did not play in 2024, he will be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2028.
