For the Kansas Jayhawks, the offseason crescendo around five-star freshman Darryn Peterson has been sidelined by uncertainty.
Peterson, who opened the season with a standout performance, has now been ruled out of the upcoming face-off with Duke after the coaching staff confirmed that his hamstring injury will keep him out for the “immediate future.”

The injury surfaced after Kansas’s opening win, where Peterson logged 21 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals in 22 minutes.
But the hamstring issue, first noted during October scrimmages, has now become a recurring issue, costing him two games already and possibly more after the Champions Classic clash with Duke at Madison Square Garden.
What Peterson’s absence means for the Jayhawks
Peterson’s injury exposes more than just a player shortage. Kansas entered the season banking on its two-way versatility, ability to create off the dribble, high-level defense, and on serving as a fresh face for a program in search of its next generational star.
