First career hat trick
Sherwood’s first NHL hat trick came on December 16, 2024 in a 3-1 Canucks win over the Colorado Avalanche. It was a rare game where Sherwood scored all three goals for the Canucks. Sherwood was one of five NHL players to register a hat trick, and score all of his team’s goals in a victory last season. The other four were Anze Kopitar of Jesenice, Slovenia, who had a third period natural hat trick in a 3-1 Los Angeles Kings’s win over the Buffalo Sabres on October 10, 2024; Scott Laughton of Oakville, Ontario, who scored four goals in a 4-1 Flyers win over the Detroit Red Wings on December 12, 2024; Steven Stamkos of Markham, Ontario who scored thrice in a 3-2 Nashville Predators win over the Chicago Blackhawks on March 8, 2025; and Dylan Strome of Mississauga, Ontario who scored thrice in a 3-1 Capitals win over the New York Islanders on April 15, 2025.
Laughton was one of two players in the NHL last season to score four goals in a game. The other was Joel Eriksson Ek of Karlstad, Sweden, who accomplished the feat in an 8-7 Minnesota Wild over the San Jose Sharks on April 9, 2025.
Excellent start to Sherwood’s season
Sherwood has nine goals and zero assists for nine points in 12 games. He is a -3 with 10 penalty minutes, two power-play points, one shorthanded point, one game-winning goal, four faceoff wins, seven blocked shots, 54 four takeaways, and 15 giveaways.
Sherwood’s nine goals are tied for the most in the NHL. He is tied with Mark Scheifele of the Winnipeg Jets, Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche, Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils, Cole Caufield of the Montreal Canadiens, Morgan Geekie of the Boston Bruins and Pavel Dorofeyev of the Vegas Golden Knights.
Sherwood’s first power-play point of the season was a power-play goal. It came on October 19 in a 4-3 Canucks win over the Washington Capitals. Sherwood put the Canucks up 3-0 with two minutes and eight seconds left in the first period. Conor Garland of Scituate, Massachusetts and defenseman Quinn Hughes of Orlando, Florida had the assists on an all-American goal.
Sherwood’s game-winning goal came on October 26 in a 4-3 Canucks overtime win over the Edmonton Oilers. Garland and Brock Boeser of Burnsville, Minnesota had the assists on another all-American goal at 1:43 of the extra period.
