Kiefer Sherwood records his third career NHL hat trick

Vancouver Canucks right winger Kiefer Sherwood of Columbus, Ohio recorded his third career National Hockey League hat trick on Friday. He accomplished the feat in a 4-1 Canucks win over the New York Islanders at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

Inside look at the hat trick

Sherwood put the Canucks up 2-0 at 10:35 of the first period with a game-winning goal. Evander Kane of Vancouver, British Columbia and defenseman Marcus Pettersson of Skelleftea, Sweden had the assists. Sherwood then put the Canucks up 3-0 at 15:47 of the first period on the power-play from defenseman Filip Hronek of Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic and defenseman Tom Willander of Stockholm, Sweden. Sherwood then closed out the scoring from Hronek into an empty net with one minute and 21 seconds left in the third period.

Sherwood’s other two hat tricks

Sherwood’s first NHL hat trick came on December 16, 2024 in a 3-1 Canucks win over the Colorado Avalanche. Sherwood’s second NHL hat trick came on October 30, 2025 in a 4-1 Canucks win over the St. Louis Blues.

Sherwood’s first game-winning goal came on October 26 in a 4-3 Canucks overtime win over the Edmonton Oilers. It was an all-American goal as Brock Boeser of Burnsville, Minnesota and Conor Garland of Scituate, Massachusetts had the assists.

Second in the NHL in hits

Sherwood’s 148 hits are the second most in the National Hockey League. The only player with more hits is Yakov Trenin of Chelyabinsk, Russia, who has 170 hits this season for the Minnesota Wild.

Canucks have won three games in a row

The win over the Islanders for the Canucks was their third win in a row. Also during the streak, they defeated the New Jersey Devils 2-1 and the New York Rangers 3-0.

The Canucks are getting amazing goaltending from Thatcher Demko of San Diego, California. In the three games, he has only given up two goals on 72 shots on goal. Demko’s best performance was at Madison Square Garden in New York City, when he made 23 saves for the shutout. This was Demko’s first shutout of the season and 10th of his career. Demko could be in the conversation for a spot on the American Olympic team.
