Klay Thompson Is ‘Stuck In Purgatory’ With Mavericks, According To His Father

Klay Thompson came to Dallas in order to help Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving get back to the NBA Finals. He was hoping to be something of a missing piece to help the Mavericks get over the championship hump, leaving the Warriors behind and spurning the interested Lakers in the process.
Klay Thompson’s Father Speaks Out About Mavericks Situation
But now that things have been turned upside down with his new team, he is stuck in “pergatory”, at least according to his father.
Mychal Thompson spent 13 years as an NBA player, and is aware of the nature of the business. He has been plenty outspoken during his son’s career, even suggesting last summer that Klay should have gone and played for his former team in Los Angeles. Now that the younger Thompson is in a tough situation in Dallas, the elder didn’t hold back on his thoughts about the Mavericks and their direction.
While speaking on the ‘Mason and Ireland Show’ via ESPN Los Angeles, Mychal had the following to say about his son’s position:
“Klay is stuck in purgatory right now. And if they hang on to the 10th seed, that will be the story of the year in the NBA…I think they’re going to lose 10 in a row.”
It has certainly been a whirlwind of a month for the Mavericks and their fans. Not only was Doncic traded away in one of the most criticized trades in sports history, but they’ve been ravaged by injuries to many of their key pieces, with Thompson being their leading scorer as they attempt to stay afloat in the postseason hunt.

It won’t be easy, as Mychal Thompson alluded. They are currently clinging to the 10th and final spot in the Western Conference Play-In range, and their chance of winning more games than they lose down the stretch with their depleted lineup feels almost impossible. But they are still 2.5 games up on the 11th placed Phoenix Suns, who are struggling in their own right. The only other teams within range are the Trail Blazers (4GB) and Spurs (4.5GB).
The Mavericks have lost 5 of their last 6 games, and will face a tough Memphis Grizzlies team on Friday night.
