A social media post by the White House mocking the city of New York has been deleted, and it appears that the Knicks requested them to do so.
Knicks Ask White House To Remove Questionable Social Media Post
On Tuesday, the White House’s verified X account shared a modified logo shortly after democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani secured victory over Andrew Cuomo, who had President Donald Trump’s endorsement, and Curtis Sliwa in the mayoral election. The revamped Knicks emblem featured the phrase: “Trump Is Your President.”

The photo predictably went viral, and there were the usual mixed reactions to the now-controversial social media account.
The New York Knicks basketball team took issue. According to Front Office Sports, the team reached out to the White House about the post, and it was subsequently deleted voluntarily.
The Knicks then provided a statement:
“The Knicks remain neutral on political matters. We hope all our elected officials, whether current or recently elected, do a great job in office.”
The reasons for the team’s concern over the post are two-fold. With the United States being so divided on the political spectrum, it is understandable that they’d want to keep their stance neutral in the public eye. But team owner James Dolan is known to vehemently defend the use of logos and intellectual property, which the White House post seemed to infringe on.
Just two weeks ago, the Knicks sent a cease-and-desist letter to Mamdani and his campaign for using a team-inspired logo that read, “New York Zohran”.
While Dolan did not publicly endorse anyone in this year’s mayoral race, he was a prominent supporter of Diana Florence in her campaign for Manhattan district attorney. He also made sizable donations to Donald Trump’s campaign in 2016 and 2020.
Mamdani attended Sunday’s Knicks game against the Chicago Bulls.
