When the Ravens take the field on Sunday, it will be without their MVP-winning quarterback.
Jackson has been ruled out for Week 5 against the Houston Texans due to a hamstring injury. Cooper Rush will start in Jackson’s place.
Jackson suffered a hamstring injury in Week 4’s 37-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Jackson left the game in the third quarter and never returned. Jackson finished 14 of 20 for 174 yards, one touchdown, and one interception with 48 yards rushing. Jackson also had a crucial fumble that the Chiefs recovered in the second quarter.
Sunday will be the first game Jackson has missed due to injury since 2022.
Jackson is the engine of the Ravens’ offense. The 28-year-old was off to another MVP-like start, with 869 yards passing, 10 touchdowns, and one interception. Jackson also added 166 yards rushing and one touchdown.
While Jackson has made some mistakes in key moments, he is not the main reason why the Ravens are 1-3. Baltimore’s defense has been atrocious through four games.
Baltimore’s defense ranks 31st in total yards (406.8), 31st against the pass (265.8 yards per game), 27th against the run (141.3 yards per game), and 32nd in scoring defense (33.3 points per game).
The Ravens have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL. Yet they have disappointed so far.
Injuries have also played a key role in their slow start. Linebacker Roquan Smith (hamstring) and cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie (hamstring) and Marlon Humphrey (calf) have been ruled out for Sunday.
Safety Kyle Hamilton (groin) is questionable for Week 5.

With Jackson out, Rush gets his first start with the Ravens.
Rush is one of the premier backup quarterbacks in the NFL. Rush spent the last four seasons as the backup to Dak Prescott.
In 2022, Rush went 4-1 as the Cowboys’ starter while Prescott rehabbed an injury.
Last season, Rush played half the season after Prescott suffered a season-ending injury in Week 9. Rush went 4-4 to close the season.
Rush has thrown for 3,515 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 37 games. He holds an impressive 9-5 record as a starter.
Rush does not have the athleticism of Jackson. However, Rush is more than capable of coming in for a few games and leading a team to victory.
The Ravens (1-3) host the Texans (1-3) in Week 5.
