For the third time this season, a National Hockey League player recorded his 1000th regular season career point. Edmonton Oilers centre Leon Draisaitl of Cologne, Germany accomplished the feat in a 6-4 Oilers win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Draisaitl set up Zach Hyman of Toronto, Ontario at 11:38 of the first period on the power-play to open the scoring. Oilers captain Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario had the other assist. It was one four assists Draisaitl had in the game. Ironically, Draisaitl’s assist came against former Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner of Edmonton, Alberta. Skinner was actually only traded to the Penguins on Friday for Tristan Jarry of Surrey, British Columbia. Remarkably, the first game Skinner played for the Penguins came against the Oilers.

Draisaitl was the co-leader for the Oilers in points with four. McDavid also had four points as he notched  two goals and two assists.

First German ever with 1000 points

Draisaitl is not only the first German to ever record 1000 points, he is the only German to record 500 points. Second on the list is Marco Sturm of Dingolfing, Germany. He had 487 points (242 goals and 245 assists) from 1997 to 2012. Sturm played for the San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Washington Capitals, Vancouver Canucks, and Florida Panthers. Of Draisaitl’s 1000 points, all came with the Oilers.
