Lindsey Vonn

41-year-old Lindsey Vonn crashed in her final downhill race before the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

Vonn was among several athletes who crashed on the course which was hampered by limited visibility and harsh weather conditions which ultimately postponed the race.

She was attended to by medical professionals before getting up and gingerly walking. Her left knee was affected, but as of now, we have no idea how significant the injury could be. Vonn was airlifted off the course to get further treatment.

Vonn has been the inspiring comeback story this winter en route to a return to Olympic competition. Last month, she won her first downhill race since 2018.

She began the comeback after successful recovery from a partial knee replacement surgery (on her right knee) and a desire to race on the Olympic course which has been a favorite of hers in her storied career.

The Milan Cortina Olympics begin next week. Opening ceremonies are on February 6. The training runs for Vonn’s event are scheduled for February 5 and 6 with competition beginning on February 8.

Vonn is the 2010 Vancouver Olympic gold medalist.

She has competed in 21 seasons, from 2001 until her retirement in 2019 but returned in 2025.

No one wants to see Vonn’s injury be detrimental to her Olympic aspirations.
