The first quarterback domino has fallen. Matthew Stafford will remain with the Los Angeles Rams. Where does Matthew Stafford’s contract rank among the top quarterbacks?

Matthew Stafford And Rams Agree To A Contract Restructure

Stafford and the Rams came to terms on a restructured contract, the team announced Friday.

The terms of the deal will be finalized over the next few weeks. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Stafford’s 2025 salary will be revealed after the start of free agency on March 12.

Last week, the Rams gave Stafford and his agent permission to speak with other teams to gauge his value and converse in trade talks.

The New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders emerged as suitors for Stafford.

In the end, cooler heads prevailed, as Stafford returns to a Rams team he led to a Super Bowl in 2021.

Stafford, 37, is still one of the ten best quarterbacks in football. Stafford finished 2024 with 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions with a 65.8% completion percentage.

The Rams gave the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles their biggest scare in the postseason. Had Jalen Carter not made a huge defensive play on Stafford at the end of the game, the Rams might have been playing the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Who Are The NFL’s Highest-Paid Quarterbacks?

Player Team Average Per Year
Dak Prescott Dallas Cowboys $60 million
Joe Burrow Cincinnati Bengals $55 million
Jordan Love Green Bay Packers $55 million
Trevor Lawrence Jacksonville Jaguars $55 million
Tua Tagovailoa Miami Dolphins $53.1 million
Jared Goff Detroit Lions $53 million
Justin Herbert Los Angeles Chargers $52.5 million
Lamar Jackson Baltimore Ravens $52 million
Jalen Hurts Philadelphia Eagles $51 million

In 2022, Stafford signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Rams.

Because Stafford restructured his deal in 2024, the veteran quarterback only had $4 million guaranteed in 2025 and no guaranteed money in 2026.

Per Dianna Russini, the Raiders and Giants discussed two-year contracts with Stafford with $90 million to $100 million guaranteed.

Rapoport noted that Stafford took less money to remain with the Rams.

While unofficial, Stafford will likely carry a 2025 salary north of $50 million.
