There were high expectations for the Miami Hurricanes for the 2025 college football season. Through the first four weeks, they’ve delivered despite a tough schedule, and are now being rewarded for their hot start.
Miami Hurricanes Move Up To No.2 In AP Poll
Miami entered Saturday’s game against the Florida Gators with a 3-0 record. After a statement win in Week 1 against Notre Dame, they handled Bethune-Cookman in Week 2, and then beat the then-18th ranked South Florida for their third straight win to open the season.
On Saturday, they took on the Florida Gators, who have struggled in the early portion of the season. Florida was able to keep things close through most of the game, but Miami ultimately held on for a 26-7 victory.
Having defeated two ranked teams so far and having moved their record to 4-0, the Hurricanes have moved up in this week’s AP Poll. After being ranked 4th last week, Miami has surpassed both LSU and Penn State, and are now ranked number 2 overall. The only team ahead of them is defending champion Ohio State.

For Miami, it is the highest that they’ve been ranked in eight years. They were no.2 in back-to-back weeks in 2017, having started that season 10-0. But they are hoping that things are different this time around, as they lost the final three games of the 2017 season, including a 38-10 defeat in the ACC Championship.
If the Hurricanes win their next game, they are set up nicely for the rest of the season. To conclude the tough start to their schedule, Miami will take on Florida State, who are currently ranked 8th. None of the rest of their opponents are currently ranked, which include schools like Stanford and Virginia Tech.
Ohio State received 52 of the 66 first place votes this week, with Miami receiving 7. The other teams that garnered first place votes were Penn State(5), Oregon(1), and Oklahoma(1).
