The final day of the Miami Open has not gone according to plan.  The doubles final will finish up over seven hours after it started.  Rains delayed everything including the men’s final between Novak Djokovic and Jakub Mensik.

Djokovic is chasing tennis history, trying to win his 100th career ATP title.  He is the heavy favorite to win this match over 19-year-old Jakub Mensik.

However, there could be a complication, and it involves Djokovic’s eye.

Video and photos taken while Djokovic has been on the Miami Open grounds on Sunday show that he has a swollen eye.

Fans have speculated anything from a bug bite to allergies to a stye that could be causing the problem.

Others worry that it will affect his ability to see the ball specifically off of Mensik’s very powerful serve.

Djokovic has faced adversity, injury, and everything else in his storied career and still came out a winner.  If this is an issue, he is a competitor that will figure out a way to deal with it and overcome it.

In the meantime, Mensik’s mindset should also be considered.  He is playing his idol.  Mensik is dealing with an hours long rain delay so he has more time to think about it.

How will he react to Djokovic’s eye issue?  Players sometimes struggle when their opponents have a physical issue.  Could it affect him?  All of it adds to the drama of the Miami Open final which is slated to begin after the women’s doubles match which is still ongoing at 7:40 PM EDT.
