Miami Open

Tennis fans, it is time for the Miami Open.  Play officially started on March 16 with qualifying rounds.  Main draw play is scheduled for March 18, and the finals are on March 30.  All the action will be televised on The Tennis Channel.

There is nothing like tennis and spring break in Miami.  Tournament director and former ATP player James Blake knows how to organize a good event.  This is the 40th anniversary of the tournament though it has moved around over the years from its inception in Delray.  Boca Raton and Key Biscayne were other tournament sites before settling in Miami in 2019.

The main court is inside Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins.

Miami Open Past Champions

Danielle Collins and Jannik Sinner are the defending Miami Open champions.  Sinner was also a finalist in 2021 and 2023.  He will be missed in Miami as he continues to serve his suspension.

Elena Rybakina is a two-time finalist in 2023 and 2024 losing to 2023 champion Petra Kvitova and Collins last year.

2025 Indian Wells champions, Mirra Andreeva and Jack Draper will attempt to win the Miami Open to complete the Sunshine Double.  Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz both completed the Sunshine Double in 2022.

All-American women’s doubles teams have won the title in 2023 and 2024.  Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula hoisted the trophy in 2023, and Sofia Kenin and Bethanie Mattek-Sands won the title last year.

The top-ranked Czech doubles player, Katerina Siniakova, has never won the Miami Open.  It is one of the few holes on a comprehensive resume.  She and former partner Barbora Krejcikova were finalists in 2018, losing to Ashleigh Barty and Coco Vandeweghe.  With new partner Taylor Townsend, Siniakova will look to add this trophy to her case.  Townsend was also a finalist with Leylah Fernandez in 2023.

March 18 Former Miami Open Champions Are In A Must-See 1st Round Match

The depth of women’s tennis is evident from the early-round clashes in high-profile tournaments.  The Miami Open is no exception with a first-rounder featuring former Grand Slam and Miami Open champions Petra Kvitova and Sofia Kenin.  Kvitova was on maternity leave last year and unable to defend her title.
