Per ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, McDaniel and the Dolphins have agreed to a three-year contract that extends him through the 2028 season.
McDaniel enters his third season as the Dolphins head coach. McDaniel’s owns a regular-season head coaching record of 20-14, with consecutive trips to the playoffs for the first time since 2000-2001.
In 2022, the Dolphins went 9-8 and lost to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card Round. In 2023, the Dolphins improved to an 11-6 regular season record before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card Round. Both playoff games were on the road.
The Dolphins have not won a playoff game since the 1999-2000 season.

In 2022, the Dolphins’ offense ranked sixth in years and 11th in points. The Dolphins got even better on offense in 2023, ranking first in yards and second in points.
McDaniel’s biggest accomplishment has been the resurrection of Tua Tagovailoa. After only playing 13 games in 2022, Tagovailoa registered career-best numbers in 2023, with an NFL-best 4,624 passing yards with 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
