Mike Tomlin has been the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers for 18 years. He has never had a losing season as the head coach of the Steelers.
This season, the Steelers are 1-1 after two games. However, there is far more concern than encouragement with the team.
Here are the results of the first two games for the Steelers:
- Week 1: Steelers 34 Jets 32
- Week 2: Seahawks 31 Steelers 17
Mike Tomlin Will Have First Losing Season Unless Defense Improves Quickly
The defense has been dreadful for the Steelers through the first two games.
They are allowing an average of 31.5 points per game, ranking 29th in the league.
Pittsburgh is allowing 149.5 rushing yards per game (29th) and 4.4 yards per rush attempt (22nd).
While the defense has been weak against the run, it has also struggled against the pass. Pittsburgh is allowing 245 passing yards per game (25th) and a 69.09 completion percentage (24th).
Reaching the quarterback has been a struggle for the Steelers. They are averaging 1.5 sacks per game, which is tied for 25th in the league. T.J. Watt has not recorded a sack yet this season. Alex Highsmith suffered an ankle sprain but will avoid a trip to the IR.
Unless the defense improves quickly, Tomlin will suffer his first losing season as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Offense Is Not Capable Of Carrying The Steelers
The defense will need to improve quickly because the offense is not capable of winning games like they did in week 1 all season.
Pittsburgh’s offense is closer to what it looked like in week 2 than in week 1.
The offensive line remains a major weakness, and the run game suffers because of it.
Aaron Rodgers has looked better than expected, but he is still 41 years old and is no longer capable of putting up MVP numbers.
Pittsburgh has not looked good through the first two weeks, and this could be the first season Mike Tomlin suffers a losing season as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
