The Minnesota Timberwolves came up just short of the NBA Finals in each of the past two years, and will look to finally get over the hump in 2025-26. They’ll likely be doing so with the same core group of players, as they inked two of their own big contributors to long-term deals over the weekend, just before the start of the summer’s free agency period.
Timberwolves Shore Up Frontcourt With Contracts For Randle & Reid
First, it was Naz Reid. One season removed from winning the Sixth Man of the Year award, Reid played a big role for Minnesota in 2024-25, as he averaged a career high 14.2 points per game. That total was good enough to rank third on the team, behind only Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle.

On Friday, it was reported that Reid has declined the player option on the final year of his contract with the Timberwolves, and instead signed a long-term deal worth $125 million over five years. That puts his value at $25 million per season, lower than guys like Andrew Wiggins, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Khris Middleton.
But Minnesota wasn’t done there. In an effort to shore up their frontcourt for years to come, the Timberwolves handed out another extension before the end of the weekend, this time to two-time All-Star Julius Randle.
During his first season in Minnesota, Randle proved to the team that he was worthy of being a future building block. While his overall numbers dipped from his days with the New York Knicks, the 30-year-old power forward was the second offensive option all year long for the Wolves, and enjoyed some big statistical outputs during the most recent postseason.

To reward him and lock him in for the near future, the team will hand him a $100 million contract that will keep him in town for the next three seasons.
In all, the Timberwolves handed out $225 million in contract value over the span of 48 hours. Reid and Randle will combine to earn roughly $60 million per year over the life of the two contracts, which will likely prove to be good value for at least the next couple of seasons.
