How did the newly minted World No. 1 WTA doubles player Taylor Townsend spend her first day with the new ranking? She did what she has done a lot of in the past 5 1/2 years, won another title in Washington, DC.
Hard not to tear up listening to Taylor’s D.C. champion’s speech 🥹

Townsend hits double digits with the doubles titles earning her 10th, and more significantly, won with a sixth different partner, Shuai Zhang at the 2025 Mubadala Citi Open. She is the defending champion, winning the 2024 Mubadala Citi Open with Asia Muhammad.
Taylor Townsend’s frequent partner, Katerina Siniakova, has 30 career women’s doubles titles and 10 Grand Slams (with three partners), but Townsend has proven that she can win on any surface with any partner. (The majority of Siniakova’s wins came with her Czech compatriot Barbora Krejcikova.)
When I talked to Taylor Townsend at Indian Wells she talked about how her main goal was world no. 1 in doubles. It was a long road ahead as her partner Katerina Siniakova was the current world number one. Consider what she has been through this year this is quite the… pic.twitter.com/3ytDCiemss

The other groundbreaking piece of Townsend’s story is that she is a tennis mom hitting that World No. 1 ranking which has not been done before.
Townsend has come back stronger than ever after sustaining a concussion at the Miami Open and missing tournaments as she recovered from the lingering headaches.
Taylor Townsend’s Wins
From January 2020 through July 2025, Townsend won 10 titles.
She won three straight tournaments at Adelaide with three different partners.
Asia Muhammad was her partner for three titles (Auckland, Adelaide, Washington, DC).
She partnered with Katerina Siniakova for three titles including two Grand Slams (Wimbledon 2024, Australian Open 2025, Dubai).
Her other partners include the Brazilians Luisa Stefani (Adelaide) and Beatriz Haddad Maia (Adelaide).
Townsend won Cincinnati with Alycia Parks in 2023 and today with Zhang in DC.
(It is worth noting that she was a US Open doubles finalist in 2022 with Caty McNally and French Open doubles finalist in 2023 with Leylah Fernandez.)
The 29-year-old lefty is just getting started during this summer’s hardcourt season.
Could a maiden US Open title be in the works next month with Siniakova? Let’s hope so.
